Free Books

I know I’ve told you about this before, but I’d
like to say it again: Writers read.
I don’t have a list of books I recommend other
than Stephen King’s book On Writing or Ray Bradbury’s Zen in the Art of Writing.
Instead, I have my own idea of allowing myself the freedom to read whatever
attracts my attention. Because I’ve been interested in books with a historical
flair, especially from the American West during the 1800s, I tend to gravitate toward
them. However, that said, I’m open to reading anything.
I especially like it when I’m about to scroll
further and reject a selection from that day’s offering at Weberbooks, and my
Spirit Guide says, “That one”. I trust their opinion that I will enjoy the
book.
I signed up to receive daily emails from
Weberbooks.com reminding me to look at the specials that day from Amazon. These
are Kindle books, so you’d either need the free app for your phone or for your
computer to allow you to read the free and discounted books from Amazon on
Kindle that day, or an actual Kindle, which does cost money. I’ve got three of
them. The Paperwhite is my favorite.
Now, what’s new is I went surfing around to see what other outfits do the same thing as Weberbooks.com, and I came upon BookBub.com. Of course, I signed up. There is more room to move around on this site with categories. Many were low-cost books, and some I’d seen recently on Weberbooks.com. BookBub also offered links to other websites that sold the books you are interested in.
What Amazon offers to authors who publish with
them is several free deal days when you come out with a new book. I think it
was five days, and at the time it was recommended that, soon after you listed a
newly published book, you could arrange to begin having sale days. Whoever I
was listening to (I don’t remember, though it was likely someone at
Publishing.com) said it was a good idea to have a Friday-Saturday-Sunday splash
for your $15.00 book, which would be free for those three days. Then, you could
use your other two days later, down the road.
The one thing about BookBub.com is that I didn’t
see as many free books on offer as I do with Weberbooks.com. However, that’s
not to say it isn’t worth a look. I signed up for their emails, so I’ll get
reminders to go and visit. I don’t know
who doesn’t love a bargain.
For that matter, you can go directly to Amazon
and put free books in the search area and come up with a whole lot of books to
look at. Many times, those books are classics. Like the other day, I purchased
(for Zero $$$) a Kindle version of Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. I
also bought The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, something I never
finished reading in my college days.
A few weeks ago, I promised myself that I would
finish up articles soon after I’d started them, or at least have a finished
article to proofread the next day. I got so lost in the research here for free
books, I am just now picking up the threads of this story, some three hours or
so after I’d started it. Bad Mommy.
Oh, and one more thing. I get credits from Amazon
for the stuff I buy. Usually, when a book is low-cost, I use those credits
toward the purchase of more books.
Other people save green stamps. I love a good
book deal.
Thanks for reading. I publish on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
