My Way - Because I Have To

I had an idea just now. It is about getting what I write to provide some money for our household. I could turn my hand to writing books. More books, or I could just continue on with my path of offering up “goodies” to the people who read me on the different platforms I write. 

I wrote an article on Substack asking my free subscribers and anybody new who reads to offer up some suggestions as to things I might add to the stuff I write. The only thing coming to mind right now would be psychic readings that don’t cost anything. Depending on the response I get, it might be a thing, or it might be overwhelming, in which case the offering of free psychic readings would need to be a finite amount, say, three a month, with any more than that costing something. What? I don’t know. Enough to make some money. 

Maybe $70 a reading. I used to do a lot of paid readings for $70 a pop. Before that, being a new psychic, I figured I should charge people $35 a reading. I got a lot of responses for those, but I also exhausted myself. Twenty years later, I am that much older, so I regularly look forward to naps in the afternoon.

Anyway, we’ll see how it goes. I found myself the other day watching a YouTube video where a guy was explaining all the ways you could earn money with your computer from the privacy of your home. I was intrigued, though I did not finish watching the video. I think I will this morning because I have the link now.

See, at 70, I don’t have a regular-paying job. I used to, but I am now retired and decided soon after to become a writer. I could have been more specific and said I would be a published writer, though, if your books don’t sell, where are you? Unless, with constant writing that happens every day, you can call yourself a prolific writer.

Well, at least the ideas of things to write about haven’t dried up. In fact, they are so persistent that I had to have a place to list them lest I forget. In any case, I am wondering what I could do to monetize my services without caving in to a boring job. Which, I’m not averse to. Boring jobs sometimes spark great ideas. They also teach patience. I’ve had boring jobs before and never really minded them. Besides, a boring job would at least help put groceries on the table for people who rely on Social Security as their main way to stay afloat.

Now, this particular website is my author’s website. So, you’d figure that the material either has to do with what I am currently writing or general writing tips and tricks. I’ve been doing it long enough that I’ve got a bunch of material.

Why do I write? Because I have to.

Why do I channel? Because I have to.

So, there you have it. It’s sort of simple. Because I have to. I would write even without the opportunity to be paid, which, if you look at all the links I put at the bottom of the article, nowhere will you see me making any money. With the exception of a check from Medium for about $10 that I receive once a year. Last month at Medium, I earned 74¢; the month before it was $1.29. Medium only pays out when your balance rolls over to $10. I may be waiting a while for my next check. But it’s something.

I have to remind myself not to be depressing in the things I write. That was depressing, but still, it highlights the idea that I must write. No matter what happens.

It being Sunday as I sit here writing, I think of it as a day to rest and to talk to God. Or, just to be. It seems I’ve gotten a bit contemplative. That’s okay, too.

Monday is my day for fresh starts. Sunday can be a day of rest and reflection.

In any case, the only way to do something is just to do it. I don’t know if those are words of wisdom or just my words this minute.

How A Psychic Writes Fiction

  Created by Pauline in Canva An interesting thing happens when I write fiction. The characters talk back to me. Well, they aren’t belligerent or anything like that. They just have opinions about things. I spent part of this morning talking to Gloria, my lead female character in the piece of fiction I’ll be writing in November. I suppose you might call this the equivalent of a vacation for anybody else, but I am looking forward to it. Will it ever be published? I don’t know. I’m tending toward doubtful, but you never know. Thinking of Fiction

The original rules at NaNoWriMo – which is now defunct – were that you write your heart out in November on a novel. Quickly, rushed, no holding back. The goal was not only a novel, but 50,000 words. Okay, so a novel is likely to be more than 50,000 words, but you do the best you can on this first stab. You will be doing rewrites as time goes by, and you move into either finishing it, and with the polishing and editing that happens after November has come and gone.
